Experience Think about the most interesting place you have ever been. What made you decide to go there? Was it an accident? Many of life's best adventures occur when you are not expecting it. Your senses are on alert your mind is positive. That in itself is a wonderful way to live life. I love to travel with an end in mind but the middle is for the adventure of it. I could fly across continents or I could boat, bus, train or hitchhike for months crossing borders in unlikely places meeting all sorts of people that will never make travel brochures. I highly recommend it. Spontaneity, discovery and surprise prevent me from ever feeling qualified to pick somewhere to go. The world is so vast. People are so different, yet we share the universal fact that we are human. There is so much to discover. I have never seen an ad for eastern Europe, or Corsica. I guess I am not the right target market for advertisers. Yet what amazing places and wonderful experiences I had. Corsica with its old Mediterranean architecture and ocean side towns. Many inaccessible by roadways. Eastern Europe the battle field between east and west for centuries. Wonderful food, stunning castles, friendly people and diverse genetics. I have eaten food that should make me sick out of respect. I have bridged cultures and destroyed preconceived notions of my culture. I have had to learn language, alphabets, politeness, manners, customs and courtesies. This is all part of the experience. There is really nothing special to it. People live this way all of their lives. Allowing yourself to be a part of their world with no preconceived notions is the experience. Adventure is like being a child all over again seeing things for the first time. Challenge yourself to be a kid in an adult body. There is no limit to what you can experience Steve McGrath |
